The booking window for FRCS Section 2 January 2024 examination is about to close. According to the official website of the Royal College of Surgeons, the last date for getting the booking done is 5 January 2024. The highly anticipated FRCS Section 2 examination will be held on 12 March 2024. Interested candidates have to pay a fee of 640 pounds for this online examination. The FRCS Section 2 exam tests the knowledge and skills of candidates in the field of general surgery. The exam further evaluates the clinical acumen, communication skills, data interpretation, decision-making abilities, and the ability to handle real-life surgical situations.
FRCS has two versions. One is for domestic candidates and the other for international candidates. First one is JCIE FRCS (Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examinations). This is the one for domestic candidates from the UK & Ireland. The next in line is JSCFE FRC (Joint Surgical Colleges Fellowship Examinations). This is meant for international candidates.
Eligibility Requirements for JCIE Candidates
Medical Degree (MBBS or Equivalent Qualification) recognized by GMC UK/MC Ireland
Core Training (CT 1 To CT2)
Specialist Training (CT 3 To CT 8)
A minimum of six years of surgical experience and four years of speciality training
MRCS Exam Pass
Identity Proof
A minimum of one year of active involvement in the UK or Ireland. Throughout this period, they should enroll in ISCP. This is to ensure a documented confirmation of competency progression linked to this registration.
Three structured references from referees who are on the UK or Irish Medical Register. One should be the Clinical director or lead and the referees must have direct experience with the applicant’s current clinical practice in the last 2 years.

Six years of surgical experience
MRCS exam pass
Successful completion of surgical training programmes like MS or MCh
Three references are required to prove that you have achieved the required competencies. One from the Head of Regional Training Committee (HOD) and two from senior clinicians who have closely collaborated with the candidate within the last two years.

In the case of Indian medical graduates working as general surgeons, you will have to appear for JSCFE FRCS General Surgery.
